But I'm reading this wonderful book, Dead Funny: Humor in Hitler's Germany, and there's a joke in it I wanted to show you. It was commonly told during WWII by German soldiers.

In Italy there's a new dance craze. It's called the Retreat and it goes like this: you take one step forward, then two steps back, spin around your axis, and hide behind your partner.

I was almost embarrassed by just how hard I laughed when I read it the first time. The woman across from me on the bus was highly disturbed, I think.
